New volume in REA: Production, Consumption, Business and the Economy

We are delighted to announce the publication of Production, Consumption, Business and the Economy: Structural Ideals and Moral Realities,edited by Donald C. Wood, Akita University. This is volume 34 in the Research in Economic Anthropology series, which is sponsored by the Society for Economic Anthropology.

The fourteen chapters in this volume are tied together by a concern with moral dimensions in economic action, especially where these conflict with rules, structures, and models grounded in different philosophies, calling for different kinds of practices. They are divided into four sections: one focusing on commodities and their social meanings and values, one organized around the anthropological investigation of business systems and practices, one concentrating on the economic importance of productive land in culture and society, and one that showcases new and innovative research on the economic anthropology of Latin America. Standing apart from these four sections is a special featured essay by noted anthropologist Sidney Greenfield, which boldly calls for a re-evaluation of the global capitalist system.
